We worked with the Attorney-General’s Department (AGD) to help support and prepare their workforce in response to a Machinery of Government (MoG) change.
AGD’s MoG had a big impact on staff. Specifically, staff transferring in, transferring out, or staff helping with operational changes (like IT, HR, Finance). We understood that AGD and their staff wanted to reflect on the MoG and feel better prepared for next time.
Our work with AGD included staff research, surveys and workshops. We wanted to hear from everyone about their experiences with the MoG. We wanted to be able to provide AGD with a clear path forward, and support their staff.
Through our work, we collaborated closely with a range of AGD staff. We also created a standard operating procedure to ensure AGD could continue to operate smoothly in case of any further changes. AGD staff responses made sure we understood their views, any arising problems, and how to remedy them.
Key activities:
- Structured interviews: We held detailed discussions with effected AGD staff to understand their needs and spaces for opportunity.
- Online survey: We received over 170 staff responses via survey. Our survey asked pointed, specific questions about experiences with the MoG and how to make future improvements.
- Stakeholder engagement: Our close work with AGD and their staff meant that we could build relationships and learn their ways of working. It helped us make key recommendations and build a long-lasting procedure in case of any future MoGs.
- Future-state preparedness: We created a standard operating procedure to ensure that AGD could continue to operate smoothly in their new structure. This procedure outlined what we’d learnt, what worked and areas for future improvement.
