The new website puts users front and centre. Through extensive research and ongoing engagement with stakeholders, we tested and refined designs to meet the needs of CER’s diverse audiences. A new task-based menu and revamped information architecture make it easy to find what you’re looking for, while a streamlined content strategy consolidated and uplifted more than 1,000 pages, ensuring the site is clear and easy to read.
Accessibility was a priority, with the site now fully compliant with WCAG standards, ensuring everyone can engage with CER’s content. The new look is modern and clean, underpinned by a flexible design system that brings consistency and polish to every page.
But it’s not just about looks—the technical foundation was built to perform. By leveraging Drupal and custom modules, we delivered advanced data-handling capabilities to support CER’s extensive datasets. The result is a system that handles complex data pipelines with ease, ensuring the website remains a reliable resource for CER and its users.
The result? A sleek, accessible, and powerful platform that reflects CER’s leadership in clean energy while making it easier for everyone to connect with their work. This project is a testament to what happens when smart design, user focus, and technical innovation come together.
Key activities:
- Platform migration: We migrated the website from the end-of-life SharePoint 2013 CMS to Drupal PaaS, providing a secure, scalable, and cost-effective solution tailored for Australian Government agencies.
- User research and design: We conducted extensive user research to understand CER’s diverse stakeholders and used a human-centred design approach to restructure the site, improving navigation, streamlining workflows, and reducing the burden on participants.
- Content and IA optimisation: We streamlined more than 3,500 pages and 2,500 documents through a content audit, reducing volume by 60% and implementing a task-based information architecture for easier navigation.
- Training and change management: We provided training for CER staff and communication support to ensure a smooth transition to the user-focused website.
