The Clean Energy Regulator (CER) needed a new site that was easy to navigate, easy to understand, and easy to maintain.

  • The Clean Energy Regulator’s (CER) website was held on SharePoint 2013 CMS platform, which was nearing end-of-life.

The old platform presented challenges for maintenance, security and accessibility.

  • CER had a lot of different data sets, which often were manually updated and handled by CER staff in CSV files.

Staff found this to be an onerous process to manage.

  • The website featured inconsistent and duplicative content, along with ad-hoc design and development solutions.

Inconsistency frustrates users and website authors alike.

We worked alongside CER throughout their website redevelopment to make delivery fit-for-purpose, accessible and sustainable.

  • What we delivered

A rebuilt information architecture to support more of users’ top tasks.

We identified the tasks users most needed to complete and redesigned the site’s information architecture to support them.

  • What we delivered

Thorough design and content user testing in an iterative process.

Every iteration we went through, we made sure to continue meeting WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards.

  • What we delivered

    A reusable design component library.

This helped create a consistent look and feel across the website.

  • What we delivered

A refreshed website onto a Drupal platform.

From CER’s requirements, we identified that ‘vanilla’ Drupal would be an optimal fit for their new website.

  • What we delivered

New content roles, models and patterns for a consistent user experience.

These also supported CER authors throughout the content lifecycle.

  • What we delivered

Accessible ways to make complex data easier to understand.

We used dynamic data-driven pages that included graphs, maps and tables.
